Bulgaria combines long Black Sea roads, high mountain passes, deep forests and some of the most varied riding in Eastern Europe. It can also combine perfect asphalt and a crater-sized pothole in the same afternoon.

Do motorcycles need a Bulgarian vignette?
Motorcycles are generally exempt from Bulgaria's electronic vignette system. Special charges can still apply to certain crossings or services. Riders of trikes, quadricycles or unusually registered vehicles should confirm their category before travel.
Alcohol, helmets and lights
The maximum alcohol concentration is 0.5 g/l, but riding at zero remains the only reliable choice. Helmets are compulsory and daytime running lights or dipped headlights must be used.
When the side stand comes up, the alcohol level stays at zero.
Documents and insurance
Carry your driving licence, registration certificate, proof of insurance and passport or identity document. Riders from outside the EU should verify licence recognition and insurance coverage.
