After the storm: a day of recovery and anticipation

The desert is a place of extremes. This became impressively clear to us again last night when a violent sandstorm swept over our camp. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, the storm was replaced by heavy rain. The result the next morning: completely soaked and sand-blown haimas, the traditional tents in which we spent the night. It was a spectacle that amazed even the locals. Hamid, the owner of the neighboring hostel, assured us that he had never experienced such a night in this region.

After the exertions of the previous day and the turbulent night, I decided to take it easy today. Instead of getting on my motorcycle again, I accepted the offer of Toni, our truck driver, and enjoyed the ride as a passenger. This perspective allowed me to fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding villages and the approaching mountains.

Our destination for the day was Dades, a place especially known for its impressive Dades Gorge. After we arrived at the hotel around 3pm, I took the opportunity to rest and take care of my injured shoulder. Because one thought motivated me: the anticipation of tomorrow’s stage. It would take us over two breathtaking passes – a highlight I had been looking forward to since last year!

With newfound energy and the hope of being able to drive again tomorrow, I am optimistic about the future. Because no matter what challenges the Scram Africa has in store – it is exactly these moments that make the adventure so unforgettable.
