After an incredible stay in Bodo, we embarked on the next leg of our journey by catching a ferry to the Lofoten Islands. The ferry ride, which took nearly four hours, was a scenic and peaceful experience, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding fjords and rugged landscapes. Arriving in Lofoten felt like stepping into a different world, where dramatic mountains rise straight out of the sea and quaint villages are nestled along the coast.
A Night in a Fisherman's Cabin
We spent our night in Lofoten in a converted fisherman’s cabin, known locally as a "rorbu." These cabins, perched right by the sea, offer a unique blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The experience of staying in one of these cabins was truly magical. We could hear the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore and had a stunning view of the midnight sun dipping just below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange. It was an unforgettable evening, a highlight of our trip that I highly recommend to anyone traveling through this area.
The Pricey Paradise
However, it’s worth noting that while Lofoten is breathtakingly beautiful, it’s also quite expensive. We decided not to spend a second night there due to the high costs, and I would advise other travelers to budget accordingly if they plan to stay longer. Instead, we set off early the next morning, eager to continue our adventure.
From Lofoten to Bjerkvik
Our ride through the Lofoten archipelago was nothing short of spectacular. The roads wound through some of the most picturesque landscapes we've ever encountered—towering peaks, clear blue waters, and charming fishing villages dotting the coast. The ride was a feast for the senses, but we had to keep moving as we planned to reach Bjerkvik by evening.
After a long day of riding, we arrived in Bjerkvik and checked into a small hotel for the night. While not as memorable as our cabin in Lofoten, the hotel provided a comfortable place to rest and recharge for the next leg of our journey.
A Rainy Ride to Alta
We awoke the next day to the sound of rain tapping against the window—a not-so-welcome sign for what was going to be a long day of riding. The weather forecast didn’t look promising, but we had a significant distance to cover—more than 470 kilometers to Alta, the last major stop before reaching Nordkapp.
The ride to Alta was tough. The rain persisted throughout the day, and by the time we arrived, we were soaked through and chilled to the bone. Alta, known for its stunning natural surroundings and rich Sami culture, was a place we had looked forward to exploring. However, the first thing on our minds was warming up. We checked into our hotel, where the first order of business was a hot bath to thaw out after the cold, wet ride.
Preparing for the Final Push to Nordkapp
Alta provided us with a much-needed break and a chance to prepare for the final stretch of our journey to Nordkapp. The weather was harsh, but our spirits were high. We knew that the challenges of the road were part of what made this adventure so special. As we settled in for the night, we were filled with anticipation for the days ahead, knowing that we were getting closer to the northernmost point of Europe.
In the next part of our journey, we will push on to the iconic Nordkapp, battling the elements and embracing the incredible landscapes that lie ahead. Stay tuned as we share the final leg of our unforgettable motorcycle adventure.
