I had big plans for my second day at Scram Africa: just relax and give my shoulder, which is in need of mimosa, a break. That meant: Off behind Toni’s support truck and enjoy the support route! So much for the plan. The reality? A private tour through rocky mountain passes.
Not even a few kilometers done and bang! – the off-road group appeared and the one behind the truck became less. Otis wasn’t feeling fit today and joined us, and I was like, “The more the merrier, right?” to myself.
The asphalt gave way to gravel after a short time. My shoulder reported immediately. But it should not remain with gravel and some sand. After about 2 hours the road became more and more rocky. I wondered the whole time how Toni could even drive the route with his truck!
Evening came, and with it a thunderstorm. The biggest concern? The dried lake on our route tomorrow. With the rain it could fill up again and that would mean: Camping adé.
My conclusion of the day: Pure adventure, wet to the bone and a shoulder that will surely remind me again tomorrow that relaxing definitely looks different!
